Heavenly Father,

You made me and You love me.

My circumstances do not define me, my identity is that I am Your child.

Your word says that although people plan their course in their hearts,

it is You who establishes our steps.

Whatever I do today, Your loving eye is on me and You have promised to guide me.

I can do nothing without You giving me the strength to do it.

The desires of my heart can only be satisfied in You.

Guide my steps, Lord, to follow You.

When I think of faith, I’m instantly reminded of my upbringing. In my adolescent years, I was raised in the Southfield Village housing projects in Stamford, Connecticut with my paternal and maternal grandmothers. My parents were also raised there. During my teenaged years, my mother siblings and I moved to New Haven, Connecticut where we lived in the housing projects. When you are raised in impoverished conditions, you may think that poverty is normal and even acceptable. However, due to my upbringing in church and hearing countless messages on faith, I knew without a shadow of doubt that through my faith in Christ, I could attain more and become different than what my natural eyes saw.

Hebrews 11:1 reads, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

In my youth I had seen poverty, young single women raising kids on welfare, family feuds, drug deals, and incarceration. However, with my spiritual eyes, I saw my future, which was prosperous, encouraging, and blessed. Faith in Christ gives you a different perspective and outlook in life that your natural eyes cannot behold and your natural mind cannot fathom. This God-given faith is not based on sight, nor is it based on how we feel. It is based on what we know. Please know this -- God created you for a purpose. Each day that we walk by faith in Him, we fulfill our God-given purpose. Let’s live our lives on purpose!

Jeremiah 29:11 reads, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for prosperity and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”

Prayer: Father, we pray for all those reading this message. We ask that their faith is activated to the point that they forget about what they see with their natural eyes and focus on your holy word. We pray that they surrender all of their burdens, problems, and issues to you for you are our burden-bearer and will never leave us helpless or hopeless. Father, we thank you for faith and for raising up a “now faith” generation. In your name we pray. Amen.

Cuando pienso en la fe, recuerdo instantáneamente mi educación. En mis años de adolescencia, me crié en los proyectos de vivienda de Southfield Village en Stamford, Connecticut, con mis abuelas paterna y materna. Mis padres también se criaron allí. Durante mi adolescencia, mi madre y mis hermanos y yo nos mudamos a New Haven, Connecticut, donde vivíamos en los proyectos de vivienda. En mi juventud había visto pobreza, mujeres jóvenes solteras que criaban a sus hijos con asistencia social, disputas familiares, tráfico de drogas y encarcelamiento. Sin embargo, con mis ojos espirituales vi mi futuro, que era próspero, alentador y bendecido. La fe en Cristo te da una perspectiva y perspectiva diferente en la vida que tus ojos naturales no pueden ver y tu mente natural no puede comprender. Esta fe dada por Dios no se basa en la vista, ni se basa en cómo nos sentimos. Se basa en lo que sabemos. Por favor, sepa esto: Dios lo creó con un propósito. Cada día que caminamos por fe en Él, cumplimos nuestro propósito dado por Dios. ¡Vivamos nuestras vidas a propósito!
